In league with the University of California Department of Agriculture and Natural Resources, we’ve refined these materials in preparation for their dissemination to agricultural education programs all over the nation.

Studio Creatch proudly announces a new theatrical commission inspired by the life of Basil Campbell, a 19th-century pioneer who rose from enslavement to become the wealthiest Black landowner in Superior California. Written by acclaimed Sacramento-based director-playwright Anthony D’Juan, Superior California is a work of historical fiction inspired by the life of Mr. Campbell, bringing to light a powerful, lesser-known chapter of regional history.

Taking place over the course of a family’s Kwanzaa gathering, Sankofa addresses anti-Blackness by actively exploring Black history. Ancestors rise as figures like the late Cheikh Anta Diop, Ida B. Wells, Bessie Coleman, and James Baldwin take to the stage, helping our audiences to remember the past and the importance of honoring one’s heritage.
