Studio Creatch has partnered with the California Departments of Public Health and Food & Agriculture to craft a series of animated musical shorts to educate youth in agriculture about zoonotic disease prevention. In league with the University of California Department of Agriculture and Natural Resources, we’ve refined these materials in preparation for their dissemination to agricultural education programs all over the nation.
In 1854, Basil Campbell arrived in Yolo County, California, as an indentured servant. By the time of his death in 1906, he’d become the wealthiest Black landowner in Superior California.
Studio Creatch has commissioned local playwright Anthony D’Juan to craft an original play inspired by the life of Mr. Campbell. The goal of this project is to bring to light a lesser know piece of Yolo County history, and to explore the nuance and complexities of this early story of Black success in the Sacramento region.
This script is currently in development and will be presented to the general public via a lived staged reading in late 2026.
Taking place over the course of a family’s Kwanzaa gathering, Sankofa addresses anti-Blackness by actively exploring Black history. Ancestors rise as figures like the late Cheikh Anta Diop, Ida B. Wells, Bessie Coleman, and James Baldwin take to the stage, helping our audiences to remember the past and the importance of honoring one’s heritage.
